Does Pakatan not want SAPP support for MP seats?
KOTA KINABALU, March 29, 2013: SAPP Secretary-general Datuk Richard Yong
said since Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim declared that Pakatan Rakyat will go
alone without the Sabah-based parties at the coming general elections,
does he also mean he does not need any help from SAPP for the Parliament
seats?
Richard said the announcement made by PR is disappointing, it implied that
PR is over-confident and hold themselves so high therefore no need
cooperation from Sabah parties to campaign against the BN which is why
they have ignored the people's aspiration for the opposition to go
one-to-one against the BN at the coming elections.
He asked PR if their intention to go alone at the elections include the
parliamentary seats in Sabah?
"Even though SAPP is being marginalized by Peninsular-based parties, SAPP
will go all out and do our best to defeat BN to oppose corruption and in
the defence of State rights, even as being under-dog we will never be
running dog for any Malayan parties which are oppressive in nature and
ignoring the Sabah people's rights," said Richard.
"We know we are facing two giants which are resourceful but we will
continue to struggle for Sabah. Dato Anwar had on 14.04.2012 openly
mentioned about the cooperation among the opposition parties and willing
to go for more parliament seats while letting SAPP capture more state
seats with the intention to replace BN with a new government together.
"But PR had changed their original initiative and going for all state
seats, this U-turn had marginalized local parties probably with the
intention to demolish the political influence of Sabah parties.
"It is regrettable that changes made by Anwar which is directing at
wanting all parliament seats and state seats to monopolise the state
political power is a conflict with SAPP's political agenda for State
autonomy and Sabah's right.
"We have seen enough of damage and unfavourable consequences caused by
BN's monopolising state power, Sabah must not repeat the same mistake!"
added Richard.
Richard further said PR had made known that they have good chance to win
in Penang, Selangor, Kelantan, Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Perlis
but Sabah is not on their winning list.
He asked, "If PR had no confidence and do not expect to win in Sabah as
mentioned by DAP's Lim Kit Siang, why are they obstructing Sabah parties
such as SAPP from fighting for State rights? Are they having some hidden
agenda which is more important than toppling BN in Sabah?
"SAPP will stick to our principle to fight for Sabah people's interests,
fight for Sabah autonomy which must never be compromised.
"This election is the best opportune time for Sabah to regain our status
we deserved and to reposition the State from being controlled by
monopolised power," said Richard.
